Actually it’s borderline disengenus to provide a USB-C interface and not provide a proper way to export data over it. Truth is Apple deliberatly cripples the Interface (and iOS) to artificially segment their offerings, but it is not in the best interest of their customers. The “Geniuses” in the Apple store try to explain to me that this is an iOS security feature - so you can read viruses from an external drive but you can’t write them back out?! Poor argument. Well.have you tried to plug in a hard drive or SSD to your iPad USB-C port and simply copy your JPEG and RAW files to it? That’s what I call “unilateral” - you can copy files from your hard drive to the iPad (“Import”), but you can’t write them back to the hard drive (“Export”). I own two of the new iPad Pros and I have no idea what you're talking about by "unidirectional USB-C ports."

Like unidirectional USB-C ports on their iPad “Pro”

Only Apple can get away with having users accept that as perfectly normal (no offense intended) Now you need double the flash space and you need to go delete the images in Photos to regain your space. How can you seriously love a workflow that forces you to copy the files to Photos and then have to copy/import them again in Lightroom CC?ĪNY other OS in the world would allow you to see your Cardreader directly and import the images directly into Lightroom CC (For iOS that equates to showing your reader in the “Files” shortcut). I’m impressed with your love for importing RAW to Lightroom CC on your phone. would hate to loose my ability to work on RAWs on the road and no budget for a nice Ipad ProĪnd. but I dont think that the same works with the iphone lightning port.

I understand that an Ipad pro can connect & import from a USB C card reader. is there any way to get XQD cards connected to an iphone ? I understand that Snapbridge does not transfer RAW.

Having said that I still prefer to wait until I get home and edit on a big monitor but it’s good to have a mobile option.Adding a Z6 to my trusted D800 and just love my on the road workflow of importing my RAW SD cards into Iphone 8 plus with 128GB to make a first select, cropping & some edits in LR mobile with could sync to my LR classic at home. If you’re a Photoshop user it takes a while to learn the new interface & layout but it has pretty much everything I need for serious editing (I did try stacking a startrail but that didn’t go too well). The best option right now for editing on the iPad is Affinity Photo by Serif. I like windows as a desktop OS but it’s not very good on a mobile device.Īdobe recently released a Photoshop app for the ipad, unfortunately it’s missing a bunch of important features and is pretty much useless in it’s current form.

The idea of having full Photoshop with me on the road sounded great, but the Surface is too underpowered to do any serious Photoshop work on D850 files, so the only thing it was good for was backing up to external drives when I was in a motel. Startrail shoots and long flights can get quite boring without anything to watch movies on. That didn’t go too well as as soon as it got cold it would shut down, I was in New Zealand and it was always cold so it was pretty much useless unless it was connected to mains power. On my last trip I took a Surface Pro 5 (core i5, 8gb RAM) for media consumption and backups.

I’ve been trying to reduce the amount of gear I take on the road with me.
